Books about Shamanism and Tibetan Buddhism

by Nicholas Breeze Wood

In this book, I shine a fascinating light into a little-known and powerful area of traditional Mongolian shamanic practice.

I was initiated into this ancient practice by a traditional shaman, who was taught by her grandfather from Siberia, as he was taught by his teachers before him...

The Buryat Mongol people live in Northern Asia, in Mongolia and in the Russian Federation state of Buryatia. They have a form of shamanism which has developed over many centuries, and which incorporates aspects of traditional Mongolian shamanism combined with some aspects of Tibetan Buddhism.

Part of their way of practicing shamanism is to use two types of ritual staffs, Horse-headed and Dragon-headed.

The Horse staffs are the domain of the Powerful Black shamans, who often work with fierce spirits, mostly from the Underworld;

White shamans work with the Dragon staffs, and connect with peaceful Upperworld, Sky spirits and Dragons.

Both kinds of shamans perform ancient traditions of Weather Magic, Prosperity Calling, Blessing, Healing and Soul Retrieval work, and their staffs are important aspects of this work.
